Sazón, Beaded feather earrings and Flyweek

My week was full of dancing and making these beaded feather earring for the first time! I also wanted to share this painting called Sazon. I wanted to paint the profile of him because he is so cool! The very name sazon means like you were born with "it", he has "it" he is cool! for example, the athlete that makes everything look so easy, the chef that makes everything taste so good… Sazon!

Chokurei's Yaktober Fest Photo-shoot

Having a blast on my friends Yak ranch, we did a Photo shoot for the poster Yaktober Fest.  My husband, the photographer, had an adventure trying to take photos of us while fending off some hyper male steers! I love this picture and our colors, SO fun and exciting taking photos with live huge animals! This is a fun local Festival that started last year by Chokurei Ranch. It's a fun fall family party with music and entertainment all day. I will be preforming there this year! I was inspired after the photo shoot to make these earrings. They feel fall festive..click here to purchase
Rancher Kyle was feeding the Yak to keep them at bay, but I don't think  he realizes that I'm wearing red! It may be an old wise tail BUT I don't want to find out! lol

Aspen Leaf

The season is now changing. I found myself completely inspired when I  saw my first aspen leaf turning just a few days ago. I remember how much I love fall with all the beautiful colors. Every year I collect some of the more gold leaves and keep them for as long as they last, which in my opinion they never last long enough!. This was my inspiration for this pair of earrings…click here to purchase

American Tribal Style

I began dancing American Tribal Style after seeing a show that Crestone Tribal put on here in Crestone in 2011. It featured Carolena Nericcio and Colleena Shakti, among other great, talented dancers. The strength, the beauty - which were simultaneously so graceful - fascinated me. I went to the next beginner's class and loved it. Seeing the art of this dance opened my horizons as an artist. I've really enjoyed trying to capture, in paintings, the movement, the elegance, the colors, the force, the femininity among other things.
There is no doubt that the dance has helped connect me to my femininity. I feel that I have come to place of reconciliation with my own womanhood; something I didn't even know I needed. I feel more comfortable in this aspect, and also more confident in myself. It doesn't matter that we are different physically; the joy when we dance together is the same.

Gold and Blue

The inspiration for this painting was from right outside my window in the winter. The sunflowers had died and gone away but colorful life still existed. When they all came to feast on the leftover seeds. The name is Full Gathering.
The earrings were inspired by the bright colored native blue birds we have here in Colorado.

Dream Catcher

My son, Jackson, wanted a dream catcher for his room. At school he was told about the Native American folklore behind it. So we were inspired to work on one, but knowing my compulsive side, once I get into something I LOVE…nothing can stop me. So I  got really exited about all the things we could incorporated in to it. My son really just wanted a simple dream catcher and he was done with his BUT I didn't even realize when he got up and left me with my new obsession…beads, feathers, yarn, leather…yummy! If you would like a dream catcher for yourself or a special child click here
Having fun with my girls after performance. Crestone Tribal Belly Dance.

Yak Skull Art

My friend Teanna has a ranch a few miles from Crestone where they raise Yak, Chokurei Ranch. They process and use the whole animal, SO she had extra skulls. When I first saw the skull, The inspration came from my love of henna designs. This is a Yak skull that I decorated not too long ago. I love henna  and thought this would look good on a skull although I painted it with oils….beads, oil paint, Yak skull…..fun!

Verano

I love summer! having my son Jackson at the house is great but I can't just sit and paint, so, I create all kinds of different stuff that  I will be sharing with you…
I had the circle in these  earrings beaded since winter but I felt like something was missing. Last Christmas I was talking to my brother in law in Louisiana and he was going duck hunting the next day. He is cajun and every year goes hunting around that time. I said I would love some feathers and a month later he sent me some! I fell in love with the beauty and perfection of the feathers. Love how the white duck feathers go with these beads, so, I put them together…and now its complete!
